European Butterfly Monitoring Scheme 15 minute count data for Denmark.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 18,189 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

Event (core)
18189

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

Volunteers sample locations for a period of 15 minutes, where the observer counts butterflies in an imaginary 5x5x5m box. There is no fixed pace and observers may be stationary during the period.

Study Extent Denmark. 1st April - 31st September.
Quality Control Phenological and geographical ranges were defined for each species and used to filter the dataset for observations falling outside of these ranges. The plausibility of these filtered observations was then evaluated individually. Observers were inquired for additional documentation in form of description or photos when needed. Emphasis was both put on the quality of the documentation and observer experience. Records deemed implausible and insufficiently documented were then discarded.
