Descrição

European Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (EBMS) transect data for Denmark. The aim of the project is to collect data appropriate for analysis of population changes of Danish butterfly populations. This dataset consists of counts of butterfly occurrences in pre-determined transects made by the volunteers of the project. Transects are counted as regularly as volunteers are able to during the field season (1st April – 30th September). Transects are sampled by the Pollard walk method (Pollard and Yates, 1993). Counts are made with the Butterfly Count app or through the EBMS-website: https://butterfly-monitoring.net/ The project started in June 2023 and is still ongoing. Funding was provided by Aage V. Jensen Nature Foundation and 15. juni fonden.

Métodos de Amostragem

Volunteers sample pre-determined transects as regularly as they are able to during the field season (1st April - 31st September). Transects are sampled by the Pollard walk method (Pollard and Yates, 1993), where the observer count butterflies in an imaginary 5x5x5m box while walking the transect route in a slow and even pace. Controle de Qualidade Phenological and geographical ranges were defined for each species and used to filter the dataset for observations falling outside of these ranges. The plausibility of these filtered observations was then evaluated individually. Observers were inquired for additional documentation in form of description or photos when needed. Emphasis was both put on the quality of the documentation and observer experience. Records deemed implausible and insufficiently documented were then discarded.
